I got back from a mammoth three-week trip in China last weekend and it’s been a busy week getting things at this end sorted out.
Apologies for not updating you sooner, but I’ve been waiting to hear confirmation from the factory on the production and can now confirm that one container left for the UK last week, another for the UK will be loaded this Wednesday. The two containers for the US shipment have been delayed due to port strikes on the West Coast and the weather on the East Coast causing a backlog and we’re doing our best to get the containers over to the factory asap, and yes we are seriously up against it with the Chinese New Year (CNY).
We were hoping to get all the Kickstarter chairs ready before the CNY but now it will be just over 65% (650+ KS chairs). CNY halts production in China for up to 3 weeks and I’m afraid further production ceases until they get back from holiday.
Whilst out in China we found a major production issue with a component – the bronze nut on the top of the leg structure. The problem was caused by the quality of a component dropping as the volume rose, and so we had to engineer out the possibility of this happening again by changing how three components are made. Not an easy task to achieve in the time frame at the eleventh hour, but between the factory, Dean (our engineer) and myself we got it done. We’re happy with the solution and we got the production line rolling again to get as many chairs ready before CNY as possible.
We’ll be in touch with the 650+ KS people when we have a definitive date when you can expect your chairs and we’ll give the rest an update as soon as we can get a definite date on theirs. As you can see from the pictures below, the chairs are coming and they look and work better than ever before. No-one is more frustrated than me about timings, and I’ve pretty much run out of hair and teeth to pull out…but we are moving forward.
Many thanks for your continued support, Simon
